Cayman Island National Museum

The Cayman Island National Museum is located in the old court building on the Harbor Drive. It was opened for the public on 1990 with the years of planning, research and conservation of the artistic items and artifacts. The building which housed the museum is one of the few glorious structures of 19th century. For over the period of 150 years, the building has served as a jail, courthouse and meeting place of worship.

The Cayman Island National Museum housed over 2,000 items which includes old coins, documents, wood art and natural history specimens. It also housed the collection of historic memorabilia of Ira Thompson which was acquired by the government. The collection has been bifurcated into two galleries, national history and cultural history.

The exhibiting items of the museum reflect the fascinating cultural and natural history of the island.

The Cayman Islands National Museum also offers guided tours which are available on every Saturday from 10.15 am to 1.30 pm and it lasts for about 20 minutes.
