Tourists coming to explore the beauty of Cayman Island, Batabano Carnival will be one of the major attractions of island. This annual event provides opportunity for expressing creativity, imagination and talent and brings people together for celebrating this colorful cultural event.
The Batabano was started by the Rotary Club in 1984, which generally takes place in May. Thousands of locals and visitors come to the streets every year for celebrating this festival. The costumes of the people are inspired from the varied marine life with interpretations ranging from the regal mantra rays to the anemones and it reflects the vibrant landscapes and traditions. The Masquerading band is the soul of the event who interpret social issues with creativity. It also exhibits the rhythms of soca, calypso and steel drums which electrifies the entire area. It also features a “junior carnival Batabano” in which the kids of the island take part in the street parade. It is developed to create a safe environment for the students to play mas and to teach students the art of costume making. The festivity of event is enhanced by the tasty concessions stands of the food which offers various Caymanian and other Caribbean cuisines and delicacies. |
